In August 2023, a group of concerned Texas grandparents came to a powerful realization: there was no organization dedicated solely to advocating for the public schools our grandchildren and future generations rely on. So, we took action.

Grandparents for Public Schools (GPS) was born.

We began as primarily grandparents with firsthand experience advocating at the state legislature, and we’ve joined forces with other pro-public school organizations across Texas. Our mission is clear: to protect and strengthen public education.

Our approach is strictly nonpartisan—because providing quality public education shouldn’t be a partisan issue. Our focus is on securing the funding and resources our public schools need to thrive and to fight against voucher schemes.

Although we’re based in Austin, we have members throughout the state, and every day we’re working to grow more GPS groups in Texas and build new partnerships to expand our reach.
