Our Mission

Stand Firm for Public Education in Texas

A thriving public school system is essential to the future of Texas

Our 2025 legislative priorities

Grandparents for Public Schools is a nonpartisan statewide advocacy organization comprised of hundreds of concerned Texans who believe Texans must demand a commitment to our public schools. Regardless of political party, we expect nothing less from our elected representatives.

Supporting public education is an investment in Texas — our future depends on it. Here are our three priorities.

1. Fund our public schools first.

Public schools are the essential foundation of a thriving Texas. Yet funding for public education continues to fall short of what our students and educators need. Adequate and equitable funding ensures that all children, regardless of their ZIP code, have access to quality education and safe learning environments.

2. Reject deceptive voucher/ESA schemes.

Voucher and “Education Savings Account” (ESA) proposals divert critical public funds to private institutions, with limited accountability. These schemes burden taxpayers while benefiting only a select few, leaving most students — particularly those who live in rural areas and small towns — behind.

3. Stop the unlimited expansion of charter schools.

Charter schools can open unlimited new campuses statewide, with more than 120 having been approved in 2024 alone. One appointed official approves with no notice, vote, or public meeting, excluding taxpayers from the process. Yet all Texans pay, even those in areas without charters. Public schools lose billions in revenue, while many new charters show poor performance, low enrollment, and no demonstrated need.
